Training for Leaders in our District
All leaders whithin the Fichtelgebirge District need a qualified and compulsory training before they are allowed to run groups. A wide range of courses is offered by the VCP-Bavaria and also by our district. The course-system is subdivided in several fields:
Scouting Skills
The VCP-Bavaria offers an annual course for basic scouting skills which takes about one week. Basic skills like tying knots, building fires, orientation, first aid, backwards cooking, pioneering and even tent construction are part of the training.
The Fichtelgebirge District since 2000 annually offers a similar course which is called TECHNIX. This intensive course takes four days and conveys a broad spectrum of basic skills to the participants. The aim of both courses is to refresh established knowledge which then can be tought to youngsters at patrol evenings, activities and camps. In our district the participation on such a course is compulsary for all future leaders. It should be attented before the important leaders training courses (see below). |

First Aid
Since autumn 2002 First-Aid-Courese are obligatory for all leaders in our district. It is important that all leaders know what to do in case accidents happen at camp, hikes or during activities. Thatīs why these courses are an inherent part of our leaders training. The Fichtelgebirge District as well as the VCP-Bavaria offer these courses which usually take one weekend. The participants get a certain certificate which is also necessary to get a driving licence later on.
This first-aid-courses should also be taken before the important leaders training courses.
Societal education (SinTech)
In 2007 the Fichtelgebirge District for the first time offered a course about societal education. In various units and discussion groups the participants learn something about politics, economy, religions and other non-scouting issues. The main aim of this course is to help our leaders-to-be to become more critical towards social topics like political views, economic developments, religious affiliations and much more. The course takes one weekend and is the first one in this vein within the VCP-Bavaria. It is compulsory and should be taken before the important leaders training courses. |
Various Weekend Courses
In addition to the trainings mentioned before, there are also about a dozen optional courses with various topics. Most of them are offered by the VCP-Bavaria or other districts. Topics, for example, can be fine arts, religions, games, scouting history, handicrafts and music.
The "Frankentreff"-courses take place in our Rockenbach Castle, the "Kurs Süd"-courses in our house in Untermaxfeld.
Leaders Training Courses
These basic courses are central and compulsory parts of the training. Each leader-to-be must participate in at least one of them before he is allowed to run a group/patrol. The course takes one week and takes place in our Rockenbach Castle. The main topics are pedagogical issues, educational psychology, civil law for leaders and much more. There are also additional units about organisation of camps and activities. Participants have to be at least 15 years old and the courses are run by experienced scout leaders of the VCP-Bavaria. After a successful attendance the young leader gets a certificate and is allowed to run his own group without supervision of an adult.
Leaders may attent an additional "plus-course" after their participation in the first course to improve their new knowledge. |
