Stamm Heinrich von Plauen in Hof

Hof is a city in Upper-Franconia (ger.: Oberfranken) located on the banks of the Saale and in the northeastern corner of Bavaria and has a population of about 50,000. The Fichtelgebirge mountain range lies to the south. Hof has a long tradition of scouting. In 2006 scouts in Hof celebrated their 75th anniversary. The actual group was reestablished in 1982 with the help of a neighboring VCP-group in Rehau (Siedlung Zugvögel).
Since that time the group has experienced ups and downs and could now be called "small but nice". Very often leaders leave Hof for universities and jobs in bigger cities and thatīs why thereīs always scarcity of skilled leaders. However patrols from Hof were very successful in contests like the 'Bucher Berg Challenge' that takes place every two years.

Hofer Stammesabzeichen

Hof is known for two local "delicacies", namely Schnitz, a kind of hotpot, and sausages boiled in a portable, coal-fired brass cauldron, which are sold in the streets by the sausage man ('Wärschtlamo' in the local dialect). There is also a particularly strong beer (Schlappenbier), which is available only on the first Monday after Trinity Sunday (Schlappentag). This tradition dates back to the establishment of the town militia which forced all shooters to take part in a special shooting training each year. To avoid penalties, a lot of shooters rushed out to the training area in the morning of the very last possible day, without even enough time to get dressed and thus still wearing their clogs (Schlappen) . Thereīs no active patrol in Hof at the moment but some experienced leaders who do good work in the Fichtelgebirge District and the VCP-Bavaria. In the past scouts from Hof participated in Jamborees in Australia, South Korea, Holland, Chile, Thailand and the UK. They also went to Libya, Cambodia, Scotland, Hungary and Denmark.

Although the group in Hof has all thatīs needed to run several patrols and cub-packs (especially lots of black tents and other scouting stuff) they vainly tried to build up new patrols for the last few years.
